Buy NowHari is a 2018 Nepali comedy drama film directed and written by Pratik Gurung and Safal K.C., and produced under the banner of Shubhalabh Film Production. The film stars Bipin Karki in the title role, alongside Kamal Mani Nepal, Thinley Lhamo and Sunita Thakur, with a supporting cast that includes Sunisha Bajgain, Laxmi Bardewa, Sajan Bajgain and Uttam Raj Pandey. The film was released in theaters on 1 June 2018 with a runtime of approximately two hours and ten minutes.
The story follows Bishnu Hari, a thirty year old man commonly known as Hari, who is a deeply religious and superstitious man-child. Hari has spent his entire life following the rules laid down by his ancestors, his late father and grandfathers, and most strictly by his dominating mother Parvati, played by Sunita Thakur. He works as a manager at a cooperative, where his simple, rule-bound existence keeps him safe from the chaos of the world around him.
Everything changes when a bird excretes on his head. What begins as a minor annoyance soon becomes an obsession, as Hari begins to interpret the event as either a great blessing or a terrible curse, and as he experiences fluctuating fortune in the series of events that follows, he is forced to search for an answer. His strict religious worldview, his superstitions and the rigid codes of his upbringing collide with the realities of modern life, and the film follows the comic and touching consequences as Hari slowly awakens to a different way of seeing the world.
The film features a standout performance from Bipin Karki, who carries the film with a performance that mixes comic timing with a believable portrayal of a man frozen by his upbringing. Kamal Mani Nepal appears as Hari's adversary, and Thinley Lhamo plays a mysterious girl who enters Hari's life. The film was noted for its attempt to ask larger questions about faith, superstition and personal growth within the frame of a comedy, and it remains available to stream, as the full movie was shared by the makers on YouTube after its theatrical run.
