Nagbeli

Nagbeli is a 2014 Nepali drama film directed by Gobinda Rai, a well-known dance choreographer who made his debut as a director with this movie. The film was produced by Romiyan Limbu under the banner of Cheli Maiti International Films, and the story, screenplay and dialogues were written by Dipendra Lama, the renowned journalist and film critic of Nepal.

Nagbeli was released in Nepali cinemas in July 2014 after a long production journey. The announcement ceremony for the film was held at the Maitidevi temple in Kathmandu on Laxmi Puja, November 13, 2012, and the film's premiere show was held in Nuneaton, United Kingdom on October 26, 2013, before its eventual theatrical release in Nepal.

The film stars Harshika Shrestha in the leading role alongside Dayahang Rai, with Nir Shah, Vicky Malla, Surabhi Jain, Yashraj Garach, Sambhav Shrestha, Ashok Phuyal, Rupa Rana, Luniva Tuladhar and C.P. Poudel in the supporting cast. Director Gobinda Rai revealed that he decided to direct the movie on the suggestion of actress Rekha Thapa, reflecting the collaborative nature of the industry.

The technical crew of the film was experienced and accomplished. The cinematography was handled by RamSaran Upreti, while the editing was done by Bipin Malla and Suraj Shrestha. The action sequences were directed by Roshan Shrestha. For the choreography of the songs, Gobinda Rai invited his own guru, the legendary choreographer Kamal Rai, from Darjeeling, and the two worked together on the dance numbers of the film.

The movie's trailer was released in January 2014 and showcased the talents of the star cast. As a debut film from a celebrated choreographer, Nagbeli generated considerable interest, particularly because of the promise of beautiful song sequences that audiences expected from a dancer turned director.

Nagbeli represents the contribution of choreographers-turned-directors to Nepali cinema, and it remains a notable film in the careers of both Gobinda Rai and its lead actors.
