Dhanda

Dhanda is a 2012 Nepali psychological drama film directed by the filmmaker Sudarshan Thapa, who also wrote the story and the screenplay of the film together with the actor Arpan Thapa, and produced by the producer Baburam Dahal. The movie was released in the movie halls of Nepal in the year 2012, and the film was premiered at the FCUBE Cinema Hall in the Kathmandu Valley before the regular release. The star of the film is the versatile actor Arpan Thapa in the role of the protagonist Arjun, and around him the movie brings the actors of the country, the mesmerizing performance that the critics of the film rated as one of the strong performances of the Nepali cinema of the time.

The story of the film is the dream of a young man of the society: the dream of the young generation of Nepal to migrate to the foreign countries, usually the Gulf. The hero Arjun is an ordinary young man of a remote village, who is determined to pursue his dream of a second life, of a better income for the family. But during his nervous journey on the way of the migrating overseas, his sense of self is destroyed; things do not work at the right place. The beginning of the film shows us the protagonist suddenly waking up in the hospital: Arjun has lost his memory, and he can no longer recognize his body. From his head to his toe, the only things left of Arjun are stitches and the scars of the past, the lost of the hope and the betrayal: the man is locked in the mystery of his own catastrophe: what exactly happened to him through the mysterious event of the film, and the film unfolds its story on the road of the memory, with all the trapped past, inside this man against the reality of the Nepali dreams further.

The film is a mystery: how did this young man, dreaming of the future of the countries, become broken in the country, and the film shows the harsh reality of the migration dream of the Nepali people and the fragile self-esteem of the young men of the society. The shadows of the family of the hero: his father, his mother, and the Anima, the neighbor, and the local villagers who together gather the pieces of the mystery, and the audience also gradually, and the movie ends when the truth comes out in the form of the tragedy of the fate.
