Buy NowMangalam is a 2018 Nepali family drama film directed by Nawal Nepal, with a story by Govinda Phuyal, and produced by Chhabiraj Ojha, Dijendra Shakya, Sakar Ojha and Om Gurung under the banner of Chhabiraj Production and Guna Cinema. The film was released in theaters on 9 March 2018, and it was presented by the actress Silva Pokharel. It brought an ensemble of notable artists: Mithila Sharma, Nir Bikram Shah, Shilpa Pokhrel, Puspa Khadka, Prithvi Raj Prasai and, in a special appearance, the popular actress Samragyee R.L. Shah. The producer Chhavi Raj claimed this family drama was his most challenging production among the twenty-three films he had produced.
The film is a family drama with a strong social message. The story revolves around the aging father and head of the family and the members of the children, whose desire for money, education and materialism pulls them away from the roots. When the circumstances of the family grow tighter, the value of the family, relations and mutual responsibility comes to the front. Manav appears as a warm-hearted village in which the elder's point of view about life, and where the lesson of the film unfolds in the home drama, weddings, and the silence of the elders — the drama tracing the return of the children to the smiles of their own family.
The film stars a heavy cast: Puspa Kham; the dramas, with Shilpa, Mithila Sharma - supported by the huge artistic presence. The film's critical and commercial reception was notable: at the National Film Award of the year, actor Puspa Khadka won the award for the Best Actor in a Leading Role, and the film also won the Best Editor award for Mitra D. Gurung; Mithila Sharma was awarded a special contribution; the film was also nominated in several categories at the Kamana Film Award, including Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director.
Shot in the familiar locations of the Nepal hills and the plains, the drama of the cinematography and the music of Basnet compose the emotional tone of the family drama.
Mangalam succeeds as the loving, harmless family drama, and its awards point to the acceptance of the values it holds: the respected, which is the fortune of the house and whose care is the duty of each of the children.
