Jhola is a Nepali historical family drama that was released in theatres on 7 February 2014 with a UA certificate from the censor board. The film was directed by Yadav Kumar Bhattrai, and the story of the picture was written by the famous writer Krishna Dharabasi, whose literary work gave the film its base. The cinematography was handled by Deepak Bajracharya and the editing was done by Nimesh Shrestha.

The leading role of Kanchi was played by Garima Panta, and she was joined in the cast by Laxmi Giri, Deshbhakta Khanal and Deepak Chhetri. The film deals with one of the dark practices of the old society of Nepal, the custom of Sati, in which a widow was made to burn herself on the funeral pyre of her husband. The story of the film follows Kanchi, who was married to a man forty years older than her, and who was expected to follow this cruel tradition when her husband died.

Fate stays on her side and Kanchi manages to survive the fire. She starts to live hidden in the cave of a nearby jungle, and later her son Ghanashyam finds his mother there. The two are unable to stay in the same society, because the people of the village would kill the women who survived the Sati. Ghanashyam makes a plan to leave the village so that they could make a new beginning together.

Jhola was one of the most talked about Nepali films of its year, because it brought the history of the country to the screen with care and seriousness. The film was praised for the performance of Garima Panta and for the way it handled a painful subject without losing the human side of the story.
