Na Yeta Na Uta

Na Yeta Na Uta is a 2019 Nepali comedy film directed by Miraz Rosh and Bisharad Basnet, with the story and screenplay written by Miraz Rosh and the dialogues by Abhimanyu Nirabi. The film was produced by a team of seven producers - Amit Aryal, Ben Kantha Makaju, Bijay Awale, Binita Adhikari, Dr. Niranjan Sharma, Kathrin Schmitz and Ragun Maharjan - under the banner of Tantralaya Movies, and it was released in theaters on 9 February 2019. The film stars Sameer Mani Dixit and Miraz Rosh in the lead roles, with Reecha Sharma, Chhulthim Gurung, Buddhi Tamang, Rabindra Jha, Namrata Sapkota, Silsa Jirel, Rajaram Poudyal, Luniva Tuladhar and Jayananda Lama in the supporting cast, making a total of two dozen actors in the film.

The story of the film follows two young friends who go on a journey filled with jokes and comedic situations. The duo, played by Sameer Mani Dixit and Miraz Rosh, does not spare any situation when cracking jokes. In one of the most talked-about scenes of the film, the friends reach the house of their guide-turned-friend and find the family performing his death ritual, paying tribute to him and playing traditional musical instruments. But the two friends misinterpret the rituals, thinking their friend is enjoying a warm welcome at home, having ditched them halfway through the journey. The film follows the comedic misadventures of the two friends as they travel, and it is built around their situations rather than a strong dramatic plot.

The film was a much awaited comedy of the year because it featured the popular television personalities Sameer Mani Dixit and Miraz Rosh in the leads, and it was a collective experiment by a large team of producers, directors and actors. However, the film received largely negative reviews from the critics: one reviewer noted that the two friends could not raise themselves above the status of television comedians, and that the experienced actresses Reecha Sharma and Chhulthim Gurung also did not meet the expectations of the audiences. The most discussed scene of the film was the funeral-ritual comedy, which was widely shared on social media for its dark comedy.

Na Yeta Na Uta remains an entry in the Nepali comedy cinema of 2019, remembered for its ambitious team, the television stars of its cast, and its attempt to introduce the new generation of the Nepali comedy to the big screens of the country.
