Buy NowPurano Dunga, which means "The Old Boat", is a 2016 Nepali drama comedy that was released in the cinemas of Nepal on 25 November 2016 with a G certificate. The film was directed by Ram Babu Gurung and produced under the banner of Cinema Arts, and it runs for about one hour and forty five minutes. The movie was one of the most successful films of the director, and it won five awards and received seven nominations in the different award functions of the Nepali cinema. The film was shot against the beautiful backdrop of the Begnas Lake in the Pokhara valley of Nepal.
The story of the movie revolves around two brothers. Bhakt Bahadur, portrayed by the actor Maotse Gurung, drives a boat in the Begnas Lake using his own name, and he earns his living by carrying the passengers across the water of the lake. His brother Batas, played by the actor Dayahang Rai, lives in the city. One day, Batas demands his share of the family property, specifically asking for the boat of his brother. The story unfolds as Bhakt Bahadur reluctantly hands over the boat to his brother, and Batas struggles to maintain it, because the old boat carries the memories and the emotions of the whole family. The film captures the complexities of the family relationships, the personal sacrifices and the emotional connection of the people to the old boat of the lake.
The cast of the film includes Dayahang Rai, Maotse Gurung, the actress Priyanka Karki and the actress Menuka Pradhan in the main roles, with Nawajung Gurung, D.B. Gurung, Buddhi Tamang, Mani Ram Pokharel and Puskar Gurung in the supporting roles. The film is a heartwarming tale set in the picturesque village of the Begnas Lake, and it is remembered today as one of the finest family dramas of the Nepali cinema. The songs of the movie, including the song Maajhi, became popular with the audience, and after its theatrical run the makers placed the full movie for free on the YouTube platform, where the story of the old boat of Begnas continues to be watched.
