Buy NowDaal Bhat Tarkari is a Nepali comedy film released in theatres on 26 April 2019. The film was directed by Sudan K.C., the son of the producer Kiran K.C. It was made under the banner of Maha Sanchar and presented by Kiran K.C. The title of the film means "Lentils, Rice and Vegetables", the everyday meal of the ordinary Nepali household, and the picture was a follow-up to the successful comedy Shatru Gate.
The cast of the film was one of the strongest groups of the Nepali comedy: Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya, the most famous comic pair of the country, joined by Niruta Singh, Puspa Khadka, Swastima Khadka, Basundhara Bhusal, Sachin Adhikari and Sudan K.C. The film also featured Wilson Bikram Rai, Barsha Raut and Yaman Shrestha among the other players, and the whole group was presented as a big family entertainment.
The story of the film was built around the daily struggle of the common people to earn the basic needs of life. The makers described the picture as the story of earning the "daal bhat tarkari" in a comical pitch, and the film mixed the humour of the household life with the social subjects of the middle class of Nepal. The announcement of the project brought the whole group of the earlier comedy Shatru Gate back to the screen, and the film was produced under the care of the banner Maha Sanchar.
Daal Bhat Tarkari became one of the popular comedies of the year 2019, and the full movie is today available to watch for free on YouTube. The picture stands in the long tradition of the Nepali satirical comedy that makes the audience laugh at the everyday life of the country, and it remains a good title for the family viewer
The film was released with the festival weekend of the Nepali cinema in the spring season, when the family audience of the whole country was heading to the halls, and the title of the picture, which means the everyday meal, became the slogan of the release of the film.
