Buy NowRampyari is a 2016 Nepali romantic drama produced by actress Rekha Thapa's own banner, Rekha Films. It was released in theatres on 8 April 2016 and was the twelfth movie produced by the Rekha Films banner. The film was directed by Shabir Shrestha and saw Rekha Thapa playing a double role, with the main story built around a woman who drives a three-wheeler tempo — a character based on a real person — a rare and grounded choice for a mainstream Nepali film of that era.
The leading male role was played by Sabin Shrestha, opposite Rekha Thapa, while the cast also introduced Rekha's nephew Avash Adhikari, who made his debut in the film, along with Ashma D.C. The supporting cast included Tika K.C., Nima Mainali, Pukar Bhattarai, Nagendra Rijal, Nandu Srivastav and Kiran Thapa. The movie was aimed mainly at single-screen audiences, who were the core supporters of Rekha Films productions.
The script was written by Jagadishwor Thapa, with cinematography by Shiva Dhakal, editing by Arjun G.C., action by Roshan Shrestha, choreography by Ramji Lamichhane and background score by Dinesh Sunam. The film was produced by Saraswoti Thapa, Rekha's mother, and Rekha dedicated the movie to her father, Prem Kumar Thapa. Production was not without its difficulties: initially planned for a Dashain release, shooting was delayed by the devastating earthquake of April 2015, and while the film was on hold Rekha travelled to the United States, where she composed and directed the first song of the film, "Arko Juni", remotely.
The film was released on the same Friday as Nai Nabhannu La 4, making it part of one of the most competitive release dates of that year. Today the full movie of Rampyari is available to watch for free on YouTube, and it remains a good example of the female-led, mass-audience cinema that Rekha Thapa championed through her own production house.
