Rawayan is a 2024 Nepali action crime drama film directed by Sudarshan Thapa, produced under the banner of Sudarshan Thapa Production and Pooja Sharma Productions. The film was released in the Nepali cinema halls on 6 September 2024 and has a running time of about two hours and fourteen minutes. It comes with a powerful cast that includes Paul Shah, Pooja Sharma and Priyanka Karki in the lead roles, supported by debut in Pramod Agsakari and the ensemble of Nikita Chandak, Prakash Shah, Kailash Rawal, Arjun Raj Janga Shahi, Sharmila Muller and Pradip Dhakal.

The film presents a different face of the ancient epic Ramayan. The filmmakers creatively described that the world knows Ramayan from the perspective of the hero Lord Ram, and their film retells the same narrative from the eyes of the opposing character, and therefore the title of the movie itself is Rawayan. The story is filled with mythology and power game, and it explores the criminal world of the Terai, the border area between Nepal and India, where the characters of the film live and rule. The leading character is a big figure of the criminal empire. Society often sees him as a villain, but for the people of the region, he is a hero, because he takes care of the one who are rejected by the system. The film goes deep into the social conflict of the zone, the relationship between the criminal and law and the people, and asks the audience to think what is good and what is bad, when the law protects only one group of the society.

The movie is a big budget drama with a lot of raw action of the jungle, the fight of the underworld, the romance of the characters, and the strong emotional performance by the lead of film. The director Sudarshan Thapa is known for giving a social voice to his films like Prasad and Prasad 2 and cartoon, for the new genre, he built a different sonic, and separated world of the criminal syndicate of the south region with realistic taste and music. After the film complete its theatrical run, the maker chose to release the entire movie for the viewers on YouTube for free, which help the film to reach a new round of audience in Nepal and in the border area of India as well.
