Buy NowKing is a 2017 Nepali action film directed, written and scripted by Shabir Shrestha and produced by Jayan Shrestha, presented by Jagan Shrestha. The movie was released in theaters across Nepal on January 12, 2017, breaking the tradition of Friday releases by arriving on a Thursday alongside Love Sasha and Shabda. It stars Nikhil Upreti in the lead role, with Anoop Bikram Shahi, Benisha Hamal, Rupa Rana, Prajwal Sujal Giri and Jagan Shrestha in key roles.
The story of King revolves around the struggle between the character played by Anoop Bikram Shahi and the one played by Nikhil Upreti. Nikhil Upreti, known as an action star of Nepali cinema, appears in both action and romantic sequences, showcasing his range as an actor. The film presented him in a dual mode of performance, mixing high-energy fight scenes with emotional moments.
The production team behind King included music directors Basanta Sapkota, Dinesh Sunam and Sujendra D. Karki, with music arrangement by Kiran Tuladhar and background score by Shailesh Shrestha. The action sequences were choreographed by Roshan Shrestha, while the cinematography was handled by Sanjay Lama. Ramji Lamichhane served as choreographer, and the editing was done by Arjun GC and Milan Shrestha, with visual effects by Anupam Shah.
Before the release, the film's teaser was launched in November 2016, featuring glimpses of action shots and a love song. The posters of King were released in late December 2016, and the marketing campaign built strong expectations among fans of Nikhil Upreti, who was considered the main attraction of the movie. Anoop Bikram Shahi was also regarded as one of the most promising actors of his generation in the Nepali film industry.
King is part of the filmography of director Shabir Shrestha, who had earlier directed films like Tathastu and Aadhi Baato. With its action-heavy narrative and popular cast, King offered Nepali audiences an energetic cinema experience and contributed to the action genre's presence in 2017.
