Punarjanma

Punarjanma is a 2015 Nepali drama film directed by Sajan Shrestha and produced by Mohan Krishna Shrestha and Bhadra Bahadur Shahi under the banner of MK Entertainment. The movie was released in theaters on March 6, 2015, and received a U certificate from the censor board. It was later counted among the top ten movies of the Nepali year 2071 according to the Box Office Club.

Punarjanma presents a realistic story of an army officer's family during the armed conflict in Nepal. The film is based on true events and shows the impact of the conflict on an army family, exploring how the violence of the insurgency affected ordinary people who served the state. Actor Aaryan Sigdel, who plays the army officer, said the film raises a truthful story, and actress Keki Adhikari, who plays his wife, noted that the movie also presents the marital life of the army officer. Director Sajan Shrestha said the movie is based on a true story but does not present the incidents of a particular person.

The film stars Aaryan Sigdel and Gajit Bista as army officers, with Keki Adhikari, Sushmita Shahi, Mithila Sharma, Vijay Lama, Laxmi Giri, Rashmi Bhatta, Deshbhakta Khanal, Surbir Pandit, Ram Kaji Ghimire and Niru Khadka in supporting roles. The story was written by Sudarshan Shrestha, and the cinematography was handled by Shiva Dhakal and Nawaraj Thapa. The music was composed by Basanta Sapkota and Jayanta Sharma, with background score by Alis Karki, and the action sequences were choreographed by Asta Maharjan.

The film's trailer was unveiled at a press conference in Kathmandu in February 2015, where the production team explained the film's social significance. The songs Piro Piro and Kina Jindagi were released as part of the promotional campaign and added to the film's emotional appeal.

Punarjanma stands as one of the notable films to address the Maoist conflict through the eyes of an army family, and it remains an important entry in the filmography of director Sajan Shrestha and in the careers of its lead actors.
