Rajja Rani is a 2018 Nepali romantic comedy film written and directed by Yam Thapa, produced by Ramesh MK Poudel and Aryan Poudel under the banner of Aryan Films Production and Kindle Studio. The film was released in theaters on 5 January 2018 with a runtime of 138 minutes, and it was released in two languages, Nepali and Maithili, to reach the audiences of the Terai region of Nepal as well as the Maithili-speaking population of the country and India. The film stars Najir Husen in the role of Rajja Yadav, a young man of the Terai, and Keki Adhikari in the role of Rani, the woman he loves, with the veteran actress Rekha Thapa, Kameshor Chaurasiya, Deepak Chhetri, Arun Regmi, Laxmi Bardewa and Anubhav Regmi in the supporting cast.

The story of the film is set in the Terai region of Nepal and revolves around the love of Rajja, the young man who belongs to the region of the plains, and Rani, the girl of his heart. As the title suggests, the film is a play on the classical Indian tale of Raja Rani, the king and the queen, and the couple in the film must struggle to stay together through the social and cultural obstacles of the region. The couple is caught in the deep-rooted traditions, family customs and the social structure of the Terai, which stands between them and their love. The film follows their efforts to overcome these obstacles in the comedic and romantic style of the regional cinema.

The film was written and directed by Yam Thapa, the cinematography was handled by Purushottam Pradhan, and the music of the film was composed by Deepak Sharma and Taraprakash Limbu. The film was shot in the Terai region, with the distinct culture of the Madhesh, its colors, its language and its music represented in the film. Keki Adhikari and Najir Husen were already popular actors in the industry and their pairing was one of the attractions of the film, while Rekha Thapa, one of the most popular actresses of the industry, was a special attraction.

Rajja Rani was a notable release of the beginning of the year 2018 in Nepal, and it is remembered as a successful attempt of the Nepali cinema to connect with the Maithili-speaking audience of the country through a bilingual release of a popular love story.
