Buy NowDukhi Aatma is a 2025 Nepali drama film written and directed by Dipendra Lama and produced by Himal Kadaria under the banner of Clock Work Creation. The film was released in the cinemas of Nepal on 14 February 2025 and runs for about two hours and twenty minutes. It is a different kind of movie for the Nepali cinema, because it talks about a very private and rarely discussed subject with the serious drama and the humour: the health problem of a young man and the effect of it on his love life and his family. The movie features Dayahang Rai, Aanchal Sharma and Anoop Bikram Shahi in the lead roles, and it was one of the most talked about films of the beginning of the year 2025.
The story follows a struggling poet named Chhewang, played by Dayahang Rai. Chhewang lives in Kathmandu and writes poems, and his life seems simple and beautiful with his girlfriend, but when the couple is separated by the plan of the girl to go abroad, a hidden problem of the hero slowly comes to the surface. The poet starts to face a serious physical problem that destroys the intimacy and the trust of his relationship, and he desperately tries everything to cure it: the doctors, the herbs, and even the spiritual methods and the words of the healers. But the problem does not go away, and Chhewang falls into the deep emotional turmoil, questioning his identity, his masculinity and the fragility of love in the face of silent struggles.
The film shows in a brave way the pressure of the society on the men, the silence around the health of men, the stress of the family and the money, and the dream of the youth who leave the country, and it mixes these themes with the sad and funny world of the poet of Kathmandu. Aanchal Sharma plays the role of the girlfriend Anamika, Anoop Bikram Shahi appears as the friend Jagannath, and the supporting cast includes Buddhi Tamang, Puskar Gurung, Kabita Ale, Shishir Bangdel, Lokendra Lekhak, Ankit Khadka, Lunibha Tuladhar, Deeya Maskey, Aarati Acharya, Nima Pandey and Rear Rai. The reviewers wrote that the film tries to cover too many social issues at the same time and that the ending is not fully convincing, but the performances of the cast, especially the serious acting of Dayahang Rai, were appreciated by the audience.
