Radha

Radha is a Nepali drama and love story that was released in theatres on 28 October 2016. The film was directed by Yogesh Ghimire, while the story, the screenplay and the dialogue were written by Pradeep Bhardwaj. The movie was given a UA certificate by the censor board, which allowed the young audience to watch it under the guidance of their elders, and it followed the traditions of the Nepali romantic drama of that decade.

The two principal roles were played by Jiwan Luitel and Sanchita Luitel, two familiar names of the Nepali screen who had appeared in many films before this project. The pairing of the two performers in the leading roles was one of the main attractions of the film, and the story was built around the kind of love and family themes that the Nepali audience of the period expected from a drama of this type.

The production was managed by Uttam K.C., who served as the production manager of the project. As a medium-scale production of the year 2016, the film was made with the regular resources of the Nepali industry, and its distribution followed the normal pattern of the time, with a release in the halls of Kathmandu and the main cities of the country. The song sequences of the film were part of its promotional campaign, as was the common practice of the industry.

Radha belongs to the long list of Nepali films that combined the two most popular genres of the domestic market — drama and love — and it remains a record of the work of the actors and technicians of its time. The complete movie has been uploaded on YouTube and is available to watch without any charge, which gives the new generation of viewers a chance to see the style of Nepali cinema from the autumn of 2016. It is a typical example of the filmmaking of that middle period of the decade.
