Buy NowRato Galbandi, which means the red scarf, is a 2019 Nepali love story that was released in the cinemas of Nepal on 2 August 2019 with a PG certificate from the censor board. The film was directed by Anish Thapa, and it was produced by Himal Kadaria under the banner of Clock Work Creations Pvt Ltd. The story of the movie was written by the producer himself, and the screenplay and the dialogue were written by Kiran Michael. Rato Galbandi was the debut production of the producer Himal Kadaria, who entered the film industry in 2019 with this movie, and it starred the popular actress Keki Adhikari and the new actor Koshish Chhetri in the leading roles.
The plot of the film is a love story centred on the lives of the Bhutanese refugees, one of the most unique and socially resonant premises of the Nepali cinema of that time. The movie tells the story of the love between the two main characters, played by Keki Adhikari and Koshish Chhetri, and it shows the struggles and the emotions of the people who were displaced from their homeland, as the couple navigates the challenges of the life and the society around them. The love story is presented against the backdrop of the refugee community, and the movie tries to show the human side of the people who had to start their lives from scratch after being forced to leave their country, while the red scarf of the title connects the two lovers throughout the film.
The cast of the film included Bhisma Khatiwada, Arjun Gurung, Buddhi Tamang and Hemanta Budhathoki in the supporting roles. The film runs for about two hours and five minutes, and it was released in the month of August 2019, which was a busy season for the Nepali cinema. Despite the unique and socially resonant premise of the movie, the film faced significant challenges upon release, and it ultimately resulted in a financial loss and was widely regarded as a flop. The producer himself admitted that the project was undertaken without sufficient preparation, and he stated that the bitter experience of the film taught him a lot and made his next movie Nango Gaun a big success. The full movie is available to watch freely on the YouTube platform.
