Buy NowDayarani is a 2024 Nepali family drama film written and directed by the actor Maotse Gurung, and it is the directorial debut of the popular comedian and actor of the Nepali cinema. The film was produced jointly by Mohan Gurung, New IT Venture, Kiran Gurung, Kendra Limbu and Major Khusiman Gurung under the banners of Maotse Gurung Films and Baasuri Films, and it was distributed by the company Station 5. The movie was released in the cinemas of Nepal on 9 February 2024 and runs for about one hour and a half. The film features Dayahang Rai and Diya Pun in the lead roles, together with Bijay Baral, and it is a heartfelt story about a couple that struggles with the problem of infertility.
The story of the movie follows Dayarani, played by the actress Diya Pun, and her husband Chitra Jung, played by Dayahang Rai. The couple lives in the Gurung community and has been married for more than five years. As the years pass, Dayarani wants to become a mother and start a family, but her husband keeps saying that they should take a break from the idea of the parenthood. The medical report says that the problem is in the cells of the husband, but the man refuses to accept the truth and blames his wife for the situation, telling the society that it is the woman who cannot conceive. The typical Nepali woman of the film accepts the blame without a question, and in her love and her confusion she even starts looking for a new bride for her husband, thinking of making her own sister the other woman of the house. Then suddenly another woman enters the life of the couple and claims that she is pregnant with the child of Chitra Jung.
The film is a funny and emotional story about the love of a married couple, the pressure of the society on the woman and the courage of the wife who never stops loving her husband even when he hurts her. The cast of the picture includes Dayahang Rai, Diya Pun, Bijay Baral, Pramish Gurung, Shrisha Kunwar, Puskar Gurung, Nayan Gurung, Tika Ram Ghale, Surya Sunwar, Rajendra Thapa, Sita Devi Gurung and Krishti Gurung, with Buddhi Tamang in a guest appearance. The cinematography is by Shailendra D. Karki, and the film collected about 2.6 crore rupees at the box office of Nepal. After the theatrical run, the makers put the whole movie for free on the YouTube platform, where the story of Dayarani is still watched by the audience of the Nepali family drama.
