Miss U

Miss U is a 2012 Nepali love story film directed by Suresh Darpan Pokharel and produced by actor Dilip Rayamajhi under the banners of Darpan Creation and Divya's Creation. The movie was released in theaters across Nepal on February 17, 2012, and was considered the comeback movie of popular Nepali actress Namrata Shrestha. It stars Namrata Shrestha as Jasmine, Dilip Rayamajhi as Sakshyam and Barun Rana as Sanjh in the lead roles.

The story of Miss U is a redefinition of friendship and love. It follows three best friends, Sakshyam, Sanjh and Jasmine, who study abroad and desire to remain best friends forever. The movie tries to prove the saying that a boy and a girl cannot be best friends forever, showing that friends of opposite sex at some point fall in love, and either their friendship gets scattered, becomes weaker, or they might at best become a happy couple. Sanjh falls in love with Jasmine from the beginning but cannot express his feelings. When Jasmine discovers his feelings during an incident at a pub, she accepts his love. However, an incident during a Dashain celebration when Sanjh was in Nepal becomes the turning point in the story of the three best friends.

The script, story and dialogue of Miss U were written by Suraj Subba Nalbo, and the music was composed by Babu Bogati. The cinematography was handled by Raju Bikram Thapa and Dhiraj Jung Shah, with editing by Ananta Thapaliya. The film was shot in beautiful locations abroad, with the director showing foreign settings in appropriate scenes.

Miss U was released in Australia on March 31, 2012, and in the USA, UK and Europe in April 2012. The movie was also notable for the rumor that Namrata Shrestha was offered five hundred thousand rupees for her role, which would have made her unofficially the highest paid actress of the time, though the rumor was neither confirmed nor denied.

Director Suresh Darpan Pokharel said the movie was not a formula movie based on Bollywood masala, and critics noted that he had done a good job of bringing a fresh approach to Nepali cinema. Miss U remains an important film for its comeback role for Namrata Shrestha and its exploration of friendship and love among young people.
