Aawaran

Aawaran is a 2014 Nepali suspense thriller directed by Subash Koirala and produced under the banner of Air Crew Production. The film was released in cinemas across Nepal on May 16, 2014, and was promoted as one of the most talked-about releases of that period. It stars Priyanka Karki in the leading role, with Divya Dev Panta, Sushil Raj Pandey, Naresh Poudel, Rashmi Bhatta, Rajan Ishan and Anubhav Regmi in key supporting roles.

The story of Aawaran revolves around the mystery behind a murder. Priyanka Karki plays Shubani, a woman who searches for clues to uncover the truth in a modern suspense narrative. The title Aawaran, which means cover or veil in Nepali, reflects the film's central idea of exploring the hidden sides of people's lives. The team described the movie as showing the inside and outside cover of human life in a suspenseful manner, making it an unusual plot for its time.

The film was written by Anil Yonjan, who also served as one of the producers alongside Laxmi Lama, Pratibha Yonjan, Sabeeta Rai and Rojan Shrestha. The cinematography was handled by Hari Humagai, and the music and lyrics were composed by Swapnil Sharma of the Shadows band, with additional contributions from Babu Bogati and Kasam Nepal. The soundtrack featured vocals from Babu Bogati, Hemanta Rana and Suzeeta Gurung, including the song Ekai Chin, which was released to promote the movie.

Aawaran was noted for being made with modern graphic technology, which was highlighted during its promotional campaign. The official theatrical trailer was released in March 2014, followed by a premiere event that attracted media attention before the film's nationwide release. Director Subash Koirala, who had previously directed the 2012 film Apabaad, was recognized for his work on the project. The movie added to the growing reputation of Priyanka Karki as one of the leading actresses in the Nepali film industry during the 2010s.

Although Aawaran competed with several other films released on the same date, including Thulo Manche, Peepal and Khudkilo, it remained one of the most publicized movies of the weekend. For audiences interested in Nepali crime and suspense cinema, Aawaran offers a glimpse of the genre's evolution in the mid-2010s, combining a murder mystery with the emotional journey of its central character.
