Buy NowPrakash is a 2022 Nepali social drama film directed by Dinesh Raut and written by Bikash Subedi, the same team that later made the successful movie Pujar Sarki. The film was produced by Mahendra Adhikari under the banner of Binish Entertainment, distributed by RR Films, and released in the cinemas of Nepal on 26 August 2022. The movie runs for about two hours and five minutes. Prakash was shot entirely in the remote district of Jumla in the Karnali region of Nepal, and it is the story of a man from rural Nepal who dreams of becoming a school teacher. With a budget of about 2.5 crore rupees, it was one of the most expensive and beautiful looking films of the Nepali cinema of that year.
The story follows Prakash, played by Pradeep Khadka, a young man from the cold mountains of Jumla who wants to fulfill the dream of his father and become a teacher in a government school. His mother, the widowed Sita, played by the actress Deeya Maskey, supports him with all her power to finish his studies, but the poor family has to fight every single day for survival. Prakash has to face the obstacles of poverty, the system and the winter of Jumla, and the film shows in an honest way the struggle of the youth of the rural Nepal, who want to study and build a future with the pen, but the circumstances of life keep pushing them into the darkness. The title of the movie, which means the light, carries the pain of the hope of the hero.
Pradeep Khadka gave one of the most loved performances of his career in the role of Prakash, learning the accent of the Jumli people and living the role of the poor student with his body language and his eyes, and the critics praised the film for the honest story, the beautiful cinematography of Rajesh Shrestha and the powerful performances of the whole cast. The film also introduces the actress Renu Yogi, and the rest of the cast includes Prakash Ghimire, Rajan Khatiwada, Amjad Prawej, Dev Kumar Shrestha, Hum B.C. and Govinda Sunar. The movie was released simultaneously in eight countries including India, Australia, Japan, the United States and Canada. After its theatrical run, the makers placed the full movie on the YouTube platform, where the story of Prakash of Jumla remains alive and free for everyone to watch.
