Darpan Chhaya 2 is a 2017 Nepali musical drama that was released in the cinemas of Nepal on 10 March 2017 with a UA certificate from the censor board. The film was written and directed by Tulsi Ghimire, one of the most acclaimed directors of the Nepali cinema, and it was produced by a group of producers including Sabu Gadal, Ravi Karki, Shraddha Prasai, B.S. Rana, Bharati Ghimire, Saroj Khanal and Shiva Shrestha. Although the movie borrows its name from the 2001 blockbuster romantic drama Darpan Chhaya, the director clarified again and again that it is not a sequel, because the story has no connection with the earlier film.

The movie starts in the United States, where Nisha, played by Shraddha Prasai, is invited to a Nepalese music festival. She remembers her friends from Nepal, especially Aalap and Sargam. Aalap, played by Pushpall Khadka, is a saxophonist, and Sargam, played by Sahara Karki, is a singer and dancer, and both of them are in love. After a college event, their musical group is offered a gig by a music company on the condition that Aalap plays the saxophone, but Aalap does not own his own saxophone. Sargam and her friend Keshar plan to surprise Aalap by gifting him one on his birthday, while Sargam's father disapproves of Aalap's humble background. On Aalap's birthday, Nisha beats Sargam in gifting and presents the saxophone herself, leaving Sargam heartbroken. At the party Aalap faints while playing the saxophone, and at the hospital Nisha collects his reports and discovers that he has a broken bone and should not play the instrument, and that he suffered the damage in the accident that killed his parents, an accident for which she was responsible.

At the concert, a desperate Nisha tries her best to convince Aalap not to play and even recruits Sargam's father to stop him, but Aalap overhears Nisha confessing her role in the accident. Conflicted about whether he should play, Aalap talks to Sargam and decides to go onstage, determined to fulfil the wish of his dead parents, but he bleeds out and dies, and later Nisha and Sargam's father find Sargam dead as well. The cinematography of the film was handled by Rameshwor Karki, the music was composed by Ranjit Gazmer and Chandan Lomjel, and the editing was done by Prakash Baraili. Darpan Chhaya 2 runs for about two hours and forty minutes, and it was considered hugely inferior to its predecessor and turned out to be a massive disaster at the box office.
