Loot is a 2012 Nepali crime thriller that was released in the cinemas of Nepal on 13 January 2012 with an Adult certificate from the censor board. The film was written and directed by Nischal Basnet in his debut, and it was produced by Madhav Wagle and Narendra Maharjan under the banners of Princess Movies and Black Horse Pictures. The cinematography of the movie was handled by Purushottam Pradhan, the editing was done by Surendra Poudel, and the sound design and the film mix were done by Uttam Neupane. The film received critical acclaim with the praise directed towards the performances of the cast, the screenplay, the twists, the climax and the direction, and it is credited with bringing the realism to the Nepali cinema rather than focusing on the larger than life routine masala films.

The story of the film is set in Kathmandu, where Haku Kale, played by Saugat Malla, lives in poverty and has an idea to get himself out of it. Inspired by a recent successful bank robbery, he plans to rob a bank within five months, and he searches for the accomplices who are in need of money. He recruits the gambler Naresh, played by Karma Shakya, the drug dealer Deven Khatri, played by Prateek Raj Neupane, and the unemployed friends Gopal, played by Dayahang Rai, and Pandey, played by Sushil Raj Pandey. The group plans the bank robbery in detail, and on the day of the robbery, the gang meets for the last time and tells each other that they will no longer know each other, whether or not the raid is successful. They rob the bank, but the police arrive before they can escape, and they capture four members of the gang, excluding Haku Kale, who runs away with the money, and the film ends with the flashbacks as Haku remembers his plan.

The cast of the film included Reecha Sharma in the role of Ayesha, Srijana Subba in the role of Putali, the wife of Haku Kale, Praween Khatiwada in the role of Mane, Sushma Karki in a special appearance in the song Udhreko Choli, and Bipin Karki in a cameo role. With an estimated budget of about five to seven lakh rupees, Loot grossed about five crore twenty lakh rupees at the box office, and it went on to become the highest grossing Nepali movie of all time at that point, breaking several records. The film was screened in the theatres for more than one hundred days, it won three National Film Awards, and it developed a cult following in the Nepali cinema, especially with the character of Haku Kale. The film is credited for reviving the box office of Nepal and for attracting the Nepali youth audience, and a sequel named Loot 2 was released in 2017.
