Buy NowMahapurush is a 2022 Nepali comedy drama film about a widowed father who falls in love again in the old age, written and directed by the filmmaker Pradip Bhattarai. The movie was produced under the banner of Shatkon Arts, and it was released in the cinema halls of Nepal on 28 October 2022, simultaneously in Nepal, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea and the countries of the Middle East. The film collected about 10.5 crore rupees at the domestic box office against the estimated budget of about 3.7 crore, becoming one of the successful films of the year, and later the makers shared the full movie for free on the YouTube platform.
The story of the film is about a single father who lost his wife years ago and lives with his two grown up sons. Years after the death of his wife, the father meets a woman and the two fall in love with each other, and the heart of the old man finds a new meaning in the last phase of his life. However, his sons stand strictly against the relation, because the marriage of the father at such an age is considered a taboo in the society and not a common phenomenon of the society. Now the man must deal with the pressure of his own family, the gossip of the society and his very own feelings, and the struggle of the father between the duty of the family and the new love of the heart becomes the soul of the film.
The film stars the legendary comedy duo Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya, beloved by the audience as the Maha Jodi of the Nepali comedy, and they are supported by Gauri Malla, Rabindra Singh Baniya, Rajaram Paudel, Arun Chhetri and Anjana Baraili in the important roles. The cinematography of the film is by Deepak Bajracharya and the film is edited by Mitra D. Gurung. The movie received a warm response from the audience, with the praise directed towards the performance of the cast, the social message, the background score and the direction. Mahapurush is a gentle and humorous picture of the emotional reality of the elders of Nepal, and the question of the film about the right of every human heart to love remains close to the family audience of the country.
