Hostel

Hostel is a 2013 Nepali comedy drama film directed by Hem Raj B.C., who also wrote the movie, and produced by Sunil Rawal under the banner of Durgish Films. The film is widely regarded as one of the most important movies of its era because it introduced a generation of new faces to Nepali cinema, including Anmol K.C., Gaurav Pahari, Salon Basnet and Prakriti Shrestha, all of whom went on to become major stars.

Hostel was released in Nepali cinemas on June 30, 2013, with a running time of 135 minutes. The film stars Anmol K.C. as Aditya Bikram Rana, a wealthy and somewhat spoilt young man who has spent his entire childhood in hostels and has grown into a dispassionate loner. When the movie begins, Aditya is being dropped off at yet another hostel, this time at a medical college. He feels rejected by his parents and rarely picks up their calls. In college he meets Shree, played by Gaurav Pahari, and Junge, played by Salon Basnet, two friends from small towns who quickly bond with him, and so their hostel life begins with all the mischief, crushes, heartbreaks and petty quarrels that come with it.

The story follows a love triangle between Aditya and the female students around him, including Shristy, played by Prakriti Shrestha, whose friendship with Aditya gradually turns into something more complicated. The film mixes comedy and emotion, capturing the atmosphere of hostel life while also exploring themes of family ties, friendship and the struggles of young people away from home.

Prakriti Shrestha, a model, made her acting debut with this film in the role of Shristy, while Rista Basnet appeared as Erica. Producer Sunil Rawal also played the hostel warden on screen. The film's music was composed by The Shadows, and it included popular songs that added to the movie's appeal.

Hostel received a warm response from audiences and earned recognition at the CG Kamana Film Awards, where it was nominated in many categories. It won the award for best new actress for Prakriti Shrestha, best supporting actor for Gaurav Pahari, best cinematography for Hari Humagain and best editing for Surendra Poudel.

The success of Hostel established Anmol K.C. as the leading young actor of his generation and paved the way for the sequel Hostel Returns in 2015. Today the film is available on YouTube and remains a nostalgic favourite for Nepali audiences.
